Some lenders, such as HSBC, Natwest and Barclays, have introduced deals with rates lower than 4%, though these are only available for borrowers with specific criteria
Rates might be falling but deals are still moving quickly, with Moneyfacts reporting the average shelf-life of deals is down to 17 days from 30 days in July
Inflation in July was 2.2%, a slight increase on the previous month which was 2%, but it was below the market expectation of 2.3%
