What Is an SA302 Form?
Your Tax Calculation (SA302) is issued by HMRC (Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs). It’s an official tax calculation based on your Self Assessment tax return for the previous financial year (April 6th to April 5th).
It plays a crucial role in a self-employed mortgage application, as it provides evidence of your income. It performs the same function as a payslip does in proving employed income, however, you’ll typically need to provide a much longer history of self-employed income.
While some lenders may accept certified accounts, accountants often also obtain the SA302 Tax Calculation form on your behalf, due to its widespread acceptance in the mortgage application process.
How do I obtain my SA302 tax calculation?
If you’re registered as self-employed with HMRC and have either personally submitted your Self Assessment tax return or had your accountant do so, you can access your SA302 form online. They are no longer provided in hard copy, so you can only retrieve them online.
